Professional Hunter's Profiles: Ross Johnston
![]() Ross was born in Zimbabwe (Harare) in 1968. He left school in 1986. Having hunted throughout hs childhood, he chose Professional Hunting and Guiding as a career. He joined Westwood Game and Rive Safaris as an apprentice in 1987, where he gained extensive skills in the rebuilding of 4 wheel drive safari vehicles and camp building. Ross then wanted to further his hunting experience and joined Dave Bennett of Londa Mela Safaris where he obtained his Learner Hunter Licence in 1991 afer doing plainsgame hunts for two years. Ross qualified as a Full Professional Hunter in 1994. He then joined Bulembi Safaris, hunting in the Omay and West Nicholson areas for 4 years. He then took a year off hunting and went with his wife to manage Samanyanga Lodge in the Bubi River Conservancy. Ross was directly involved with the re-introduction of Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Sable and Gemsbok into Samanyanga, as well as the field and game management of the 80 000 acre ranch. At the end of 1998 his love for hunting was too strong and he returned to hunt for Bulembi Safaris from 1999 to 2003, where he conducted most of their dangerous game safaris. Having hunted most safari areas in Zimbabwe, Ross now joings HHK Safaris as one of their permanent professional hunters. |
