CHITEMBE RIVER LODGE

Mana Pools National Park is a picturesque destination for wildlife and angling enthusiasts. The Zambezi River is home to impressively sized tigerfish, tilapia bream, vundu catfish and an array of other fish species. Chitembe River Lodge is nestled on the banks of the Zambezi, overlooking the Zambian Escarpment.

MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK

Mana Pools National Park is a 219,600-hectare (543,000-acre) wildlife conservation area and national park in northern Zimbabwe. It is a region of the lower Zambezi in Zimbabwe where the floodplain turns into a broad expanse of lakes after each rainy season. As the lakes gradually dry up and recede, the region attracts many large animals in search of water, making it one of Africa's most renowned game-viewing regions.

"The name "Mana'' means "four" in Shona (the local language) and applies to the four pools; Green Pool, Chisasiko, Chine and Long Pool. The latter is the largest of the four, stretching over six kilometres with a large permanent population hippos, crocodiles and drawing large herds of elephant and various aquatic birds."

TIGER FISHING

The Zambezi River is a prime location for angling enthusiasts. Some species found here are: tigerfish, tilapia bream, vundu catfish, nkupe and an array of others. The tigerfish is the fastest freshwater fish and can grow up to 10kg in weight making it a thrilling catch. This river is renowned for some of the best tiger fishing on the African continent.

Late September to April are the best fishing months here.

CHITEMBE LODGES

Accommodation consists of two lodges on the River : Mhumhi Camp and Jackalberry Camp. The camps are 600m apart (by boat) , both look East and West along the breath-taking banks of the Mighty Zambezi River and have magnificent views of the Zambian escarpment. Self-catering and catered options are available at either of the camps.
